A starry world record attempt out west
RESIDENTS can expect to be starstruck at the ABC and Australian National University stargazing record attempt, to be held May 23 in Charleville.
The event will attempt to break the Guinness world record for the most people stargazing across multiple venues. The current world record, which was set in 2015 by the Australian National University, stands at 7960 people across 37 locations.
The Evening Star Landcare Group will be hosting the star party, starting from 7pm, at the Evening Star Tourist Park,.
For record inclusion, participants will be asked to stargaze at the Moon through a telescope or binoculars for a 10-minute period simultaneously.
Telescopes will be available for purchase at the party, and there will be an astronomer on site to hold talks about the cosmos and a movie screen set-up for a live broadcast on the ABC called Stargazing Live with Brian Cox.
Guests are asked to keep their eyes open for more information as the event draws near, as more celestial supporting activities will be organised at the Evening Star Tourist Park for this awesome evening of intergalactic stargazing.
