Sportsperson turned showgirl: Christie is chasing her dream
CHRISTIE Clayton is following her childhood dream of becoming Miss Showgirl, and is one of the handful of women to sign up to represent Charleville at the show.
Known as an all-round athlete, Ms Clayton was named Sportsperson of the Year at the 2019 Australia Day awards, she is now looking to add another title to her name.
"Since a young age I have always wanted to be Miss Showgirl,” Ms Clayton said.
"It is a great way to become involved in the community, and to represent our town and region.
"I am also taking this opportunity to develop personally, and grow my self confidence, so if I can do that, I will have achieved my goal.”
When she's not busy playing every sport Charleville has to offer, Ms Clayton can be found helping locals with their hardware needs at Mulga Tools and Parts.
"People ask me 'why do you love Charleville so much?'” she said.
"My answer always is that I love the people and the opportunities.
"Charleville means home to me.”
The born-and-bred local is already involved in countless clubs and groups, but is hoping that being Miss Showgirl will strengthen her ties to the community, while also showing others the importance of participating in community groups.
