A TAMBO woman has celebrated the start of 2018 with a bang, claiming one of the top prizes, the $75,000 jackpot, on a $5 Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
Central West Queensland woman Yvonne Graham bought her winning ticket at Tambo News and Gear, and was shocked when she revealed the $75,000.
"Well I couldn't believe it, could I! I had to take it to the shop to make sure it was right,” Ms Graham said.
"Everyone in town knows. Everyone in Blackall knows too. It gets around.”
"We kept the ticket locked away until we could come and claim the prize,” her husband Bob added.
Ms Graham explained the retired couple both enjoyed scratching Instant Scratch-Its tickets in their spare time.
"There's nothing else to do in Tambo but sit there and scratch them!” she said.
"My husband reckons I can see through the paint - so he reckons.
"I've only ever won $25 or $50, and I thought that was good for Tambo.
"This is great!”
The Tambo resident plans to use the windfall as a nest egg for their future.
Tambo News and Gear manager Cheryl Smith said she was so pleased one of her customers had won a top prize.
"Good luck to them,” she said.
"I think it's awesome.
"I've been here for 18 years and that's our biggest Instant Scratch-Its win so far.
"Hopefully there's many more wins to come!”
Last financial year, there were 144 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lotto jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $12 million in prizes from the cards.
